With the introduction of the Lumia 950 and the Lumia 950 XL, these are basically the first Windows 10 Mobile devices to support iris scanning as a means to protect your phone. It’s an interesting approach and we guess we’ll have to wait and see if the technology will be as fast, if not faster, than fingerprint scanners which are all the rage these days.
That being said if you are wondering if more Lumia devices will be getting the feature in the future, you might be pleased to learn that there will be. This is according to Microsoft’s website in which they introduce the Windows Hello feature, along with a teaser that the technology will be arriving on more devices eventually.
According to Microsoft, “The Lumia 950 and 950 XL are ready to use Windows Hello now, and more devices that have iris recognition are coming soon.” Now we can’t say for sure if they mean that other devices that are non-Microsoft made, or if they could be talking about their own lineup like the upcoming Lumia 650, or maybe even the rumored Surface phone which recently made an appearance on browser benchmarks.
In any case we suppose if Microsoft wants iris scanning tech to catch on, they will have to start implementing in it more devices, so you’ll want to keep an eye out for that.
