In terms of wearables, Xiaomi is one of the companies leading the way, second only to Fitbit. If you’re wondering how on earth did they manage to do that despite only have one wearable product, it’s largely thanks to the fact that the Xiaomi Mi Band is cheap. It is very cheap meaning that adoption will not require too much back and forth.
That being said, the company’s second wearable the Xiaomi Mi Band 1S, also known as the Mi Band Pulse, has been officially announced. We have been hearing about the device for a while now and earlier it was rumored to be launched in July, but as it turns out that did not pan out. Instead we are looking at a launch today instead.
So what’s new in the Mi Band 1S? For starters in terms of design, it does not seem like Xiaomi changed much. However one of the major new features that Xiaomi has introduced is an optical heart rate sensor. This makes it heavier by half a gram, although we’re sure most probably would not be able to feel it. It is also IP67 certified so getting it wet during activities should not pose a problem either.
The same-sized battery will be kept meaning that you can expect the same 30-day battery life as before. Other than that, the features remain the same, like steps counted, calories burnt, and will also alert you to notifications on your phone. So how much will the Mi Band 1S cost? Turns out despite the addition of an optical heart rate sensor, the Mi Band 1S will be priced at a very affordable $15 and is expected to go on sale come 11th of November.
