That being said, it looks like more “evidence” has surfaced to suggest that Apple will be making the switch. This time it comes from Japan via a report from Nikkei (via AppleInsider) in which they claim that LG could also be one of the potential suppliers of OLED display panels to Apple. It seems that Apple had already informed LG of their intent and the company is said to be ramping up its production capacity accordingly.
There were reports that LG was planning a new factory in Korea but there has not been any indication that the factory would be used to supply components to Apple, but we suppose if they are ramping up their capacity it would make sense. Now 2018 is quite a long time to go but it seems that the time in between will be spent trying to eliminate issues that arise from using OLED displays.
At the moment, the only product from Apple that actually uses such displays would be the Apple Watch. There has been talk about Apple potentially changing up to OLED screens for the iPhone, so hopefully the increase in the rumors is a sign that we are getting there, albeit slowly.
