Even if you’re not a photographer, there’s a good chance you might have heard of Leica. You also probably heard that they are not cheap and are usually priced several thousand dollars, even for its “cheaper” models. This why if you do get one, chances are you will take very, very good care of it.
However if you’re particularly butter-fingered, Leica might have something for you too. According to the folks at Leica Rumors, they have recently managed to obtain a photo along with the specs of an upcoming waterproof and shockproof Leica camera in the form of the Leica X-U Typ 113.
Assuming this is the real deal, the Leica X-U Typ 113 will make it the first Leica X to sport such protective features. According to the alleged specs, it will be waterproof up to 15m and shockproof from drops of up to 1.22m in height. It will come with a fixed 35mm f/1.7 ASPH lens with a manual focusing ring, built-in flash, and rubber grip to prevent it from slipping.
Unfortunately no word on pricing yet, but like we said Leica cameras never come cheap and we don’t expect this to be any different. As for when we might get an official announcement, Leica Rumors has pegged it for possibly the end of the year.
