Leica M Typ 262 Announced

Earlier today there was a rumor that Leica could be getting ready to launch an “entry-level” M-mount camera. At that time we were wondering if this camera would be considered entry-level by Leica standards, or entry-level in general. It looks like we have our answer as Leica has officially announced the Leica M Type 262.

The camera is apparently based on the Leica M Typ 240 and is essentially a “light” version of it. However it is still by no means affordable as it is priced at $5,195. However we suppose in comparison to the Leica M Typ 240, it is still cheaper so if you’re looking for a less expensive way to kickstart your Leica hobby, perhaps this could be a consideration.

That being said, what can we expect from the M Typ 262? For starters some of the differences is that it will not feature video capture capabilities, making this a pure photo camera. There is no Live View either. It will be 100g lighter, and will also feature a quieter shutter, a simpler menu design, and a body whose design appears to be closer to the Leica M9 which we guess is not a bad thing.

Other specs include a 24MP full-frame CMOS sensor and it also features a top plate made of aluminum. This is the reason why it is lighter than other models as other Leica cameras have a top plate made from brass. The camera is expected to be made available come 25th November and can be pre-ordered via B&H, Adorama, the Leica Store Miami, and the Leica Store San Francisco.
