If you have ever played online games, you will meet all sorts of players. There will be players who are extremely helpful and will be more than glad to help you along your way, and there will be players who will berate you everytime you make a mistake, or will troll you in annoying ways so that your experience will be a horrible one.
Now in Riot Games’ League of Legends, there has been systems put into place to deal with toxic players, and now it looks like the developers have come up with a new way of dealing with them which is by denying toxic players access to certain features of the game. To be more specific, Riot has announced that toxic players will be locked out of access the upcoming loot and crafting system.
According to the game’s lead designer of social systems Jeffrey Lin, he told Polygon, “If you’re a player who is punished for toxicity or intentional feeding or so on, you can’t get loot.” He also adds, “We really want the system to be a reward. It’s a new carrot for playing with friends and for being a positive player in the game. We’ve never been able to give skins for free before in League of Legends, so this is our way of saying, ‘Hey, if you’re a positive player in the game, here’s your way of earning something just for playing the game and being awesome.'”
Will this work? According to Lin, this is something they’ve never done so only time and feedback will tell if this will matter to gamers, but what do you guys think? Is this a smart idea?
