It had been rumored for a while now that Konami would soon announce the closure of Kojima Productions Los Angeles Studio, the company has made the official announcement today, Kojima Productions LA studio is being closed for good. Not too long ago it was renamed as Konami Los Angeles Studios, developers there were focused on developing and maintaining the latest iteration of Metal Gear Online.

In a statement Konami confirmed that it has made the decision to close its Los Angeles Studio effective immediately, it says that the reason behind this move is due to product development resources being restructured into a more centralized unit.

It notes that this studio contributed to recent Metal Gear Solid titles, it further adds that Konami will continue its operations to support all Metal Gear Solid titles, including the recently launched Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain and Metal Gear Online.

Konami also confirmed in the statement that despite the immediate closure of one of the studios that was working on it, Metal Gear Online is still on schedule to be released for PC Steam in January next year.

As far as a new Metal Gear Solid title is concerned a recent reports suggests that Konami is discussing the idea internally, and even if it decides to make one, it’s quite possible that Hideo Kojima may not be at involved with the project.
