Apple Reportedly Placing Orders For iPhone 7 Display Drivers

iPhone6s-Hand-SafariQuickAction-PR-PRINTIt has been about a month since the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus have been released, but it looks like the iPhone 7 rumor mill is already in full swing. According to a report from DigiTimes (via Cult of Mac), Apple is already working on the iPhone 7 and that they have reportedly placed orders for the display driver of the phone.

However here’s the bad news: the orders are apparently placed with Synaptics. Why is this bad news, you ask? Isn’t this normal? This is bad news because prior to this, there were rumors that Apple was developing their own touch and display driver solutions. What this potentially meant was that Apple could end up creating an iPhone that would (finally) do away with the physical home button.

This also meant that Apple could have potentially embedded Touch ID into the display itself, thus removing the need for a physical button. However sources who spoke to DigiTimes claims that the development of Apple’s in-house solution is behind schedule, thus resulting in Apple needing to return to what they have previously done.

The iPhone 7 is rumored to be the iPhone with the biggest change to date, so it is unclear how this might have affected that. In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but we guess we have no choice but to wait and see how this one pans out. In the meantime does having a physical home button bother you, or do are you actually a fan of it?
