Do you remember a time when there used to be no ads on Instagram? That time has long gone. One of the most popular image sharing services in the world, which happens to be owned by a company that’s also the world’s largest social network, opened up a revenue stream by allowing advertisers to buy sponsored posts. A report was floating around last week claiming that the company was testing ads that used 3D Touch and Apple Pay, Instagram has set the record straight and confirmed that the report is false.
The report had said that Instagram was testing unique ads which would rely on the 3D Touch technology found on the new iPhones to provide users with a new shopping experience powered by advertisers who pay for it.
It was also said that the system would integrate with Apple Pay and that users would be able to complete a transaction using 3D Touch and Apple Pay without ever having to leave the Instagram application.
While it confirms that mobile commerce is a space that it’s looking at closely, “this isn’t something we are testing at this time,” says Instagram regarding reports of ads that use 3D Touch and Apple Pay.
There’s obviously nothing stopping it from doing this down the line but at least for now Instagram users on iPhones can breathe a sigh of relief that they won’t be seeing a new format of ads on the service.
