Since it has been rumored that Samsung is going to release the Galaxy S7 ahead of schedule next year rumors have started streaming in about the specifications and features of the next big thing from Samsung. In just a couple of days we have seen contradictory rumors about the upcoming smartphone’s camera, it was rumored that Samsung is in talks with Sony for its new camera sensor but today a rumor from China claims that Samsung will instead go with its own 12 megapixel camera with a bigger sensor.
As per the report the Galaxy S7 is going to feature a 1/2 inch camera sensor with 12 megapixels resolution, it will essentially be doing what companies like Apple do, instead of diving into a numbers game to see who offers the most amount of megapixels it’s focusing more on the sensor itself and making improvements there to ensure that users get an imaging experience that they have come to expect from a flagship smartphone.
The rumored camera sensor will have individual pixel sizes bigger than 1.12 micron dots on 20 megapixel and 1.2 microns on 16 megapixel cameras, it’s also said that the camera will feature dual photodiode technology.
It’s further claimed that Samsung could start mass production of this new camera in the near future as it apparently aims to launch the Galaxy S7 by January 2016, a couple of months before Mobile World Congress in March, that has traditionally been the location where new Galaxy S series handsets are unveiled.
Since nothing has been confirmed by Samsung at this point in time it would be best to take this rumor with a grain of salt.
