Several years ago when Rockstar finally release Grand Theft Auto 5, the game was off to a great start and managed to pull in as much as $800 million within the first 24 hours. This is probably thanks to the fact that the GTA franchise is a long one and beloved by many, which we guess could also be said for Bethesda’s Fallout 4.
However it seems that as far as concurrent Steam users are concerned, it looks like Fallout 4 has GTA 5 beat. According to the numbers, Fallout 4 managed a very impressive peak of 290,461 concurrent users, which for those unfamiliar basically means that there were 290,461 players playing the game at the same time.
As for GTA 5, the game managed to hit a peak of 196,700 upon its launch (it managed 300,000 later on). However we guess to be fair, GTA 5 was launched on consoles first before eventually making its way onto the PC, so there is a good chance some of the excitement surrounding the game kind of died away. Fallout 4 on the other hand was launched across all platforms at the same time, so players who wanted to play the PC version could do so right away.
Fallout 4’s peak concurrent users also means that it currently holds the number one spot as a non-Valve game. As for Valve’s own titles, games such as DotA 2 and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive reportedly regularly see concurrent gamers in the 500,000 mark or higher.
