Facebook has more than a billion users which means there is enormous potential for a good cause to flourish on the social network, today Facebook announced the launch of new tools aimed at charities that are looking to raise funds online. Nonprofits will be allowed to launch specific fundraising campaigns on their Facebook Pages which will display how many users have contributed, suggest the kinds of donations they are looking for and show how much they are trying to raise.
Facebook is also improving its Donate button to allow people to donate to charities without even having to leave Facebook. It hopes that these tools will enable charities to get their message across to more people and raise much more money for the good cause in the process.
Fundraisers will be a dedicated place for raising funds on the nonprofit’s Facebook page, there they can rally supporters, tell their campaign’s story and visibly track progress.
To increase donations Facebook is also improving its Donate button and making it available on posts and Pages. By adding a Donate button to a Page nonprofits will get a consistent place to collection donations even as they update the Page’s content. Adding a Donate button to posts will provide users with an easy way to give money without having to leave their News Feed.
Facebook is currently testing these new tools with 37 partner organizations which include World Wildlife Fund, National Multiple Sclerosis Society and Mercy Corps. The company says that it’s committed to expanding these tools to as many organizations as possible in the near future and soon they will also be available for US-based 501c3 nonprofits.
