Even if you don’t enjoy the genre, chances are you have probably heard of Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed franchise. The franchise has been going on for years now and has been on an annual release cycle. So far it seems to be one of the company’s best selling franchises to date, which we guess is why they have opted for an annual release.
That being said it looks like EA wants in on the fun as well and according to a report from GameSpot, the publisher is apparently interested in creating an Assassin’s Creed-style game of their own. This was revealed at the UBS Global Technology Conference in which EA’s CFO Blake Jorgensen announced the company’s plans.
According to Jorgensen, “We’ve never really operated in the largest genre of gaming, and that’s the action genre. That’s the Assassin’s Creed-style games; more open-world, more single-play versus multiplayer. It’s not been an area that we’ve operated in.” He also pointed out that EA’s latest hire, Jade Raymond who used to head the Assassin’s Creed franchise back when she used to work at Ubisoft.
“We recently hired Jade Raymond, who was behind the Assassin’s Creed franchise for Ubisoft and she will be building an action genre for us through a studio we’re building out in Montreal right now. So a lot of excitement around the action genre.” Jorgensen’s statements echo a report from last month in which EA expressed their interest in creating triple A action games. We’re not sure what the end result will be here, but it’ll definitely be worth keeping an eye out for.
