The Dead or Alive series has always raised an eyebrow or two, depending on who you show the game to, mainly because it does pay a whole lot of attention to the female form. In fact, the Dead or Alive 5 costume pack is said to be rather risque in nature, and this time around, we have word that Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 will not be available outside of Japan. That might not be too much of a news, but publisher Koei Tecmo’s translated Facebook comment did not go down too well with many people.
Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 continues its “tradition” of showcasing the female form, never mind the fact that there are some instances where a bikini malfunction is about to happen. So far, there has been no large or official campaigns to lobby for Dead or Alive Xtreme 3’s release outside of Japan, there is still a fair number of people who look forward to a release in the West.
Koei Tecmo’s reply on Facebook as to why it prefers for the game to remain inside Japan, as well as “with regard to how to treat female in video game industry” and “certainly we have gone through in last year or two to come to our decision” raised more ire and questions than answered them. It looks like the fire has not quite yet died down just yet as social justice warriors search among themselves for a resolution, if any, to the situation.
