According to data released by the US government’s Digital Analytics Program, it has been suggested that Google’s Chrome browser is the most popular web browser. This was back in March 2015 so safe to say that the numbers have changed, but it is possible that they might have changed for the better.
During the Chrome Dev Summit, Google revealed that Chrome for iOS and Android is now boasting monthly active users in the 800 million range. This means that every month, there are about 800 million users using the mobile version of Chrome. This is twice the amount from last year which was at 400 million, so make such a huge leap within a year is truly impressive.
Unfortunately Google did not break down the 800 million, so we can’t say for sure how many users were on Android and how many were on iOS. However it’s probably safe to say that Android might outnumber iOS given Android’s market share, and how Chrome is usually preinstalled on Android devices (whether or not users choose to use them is a different story).
According to Google during the announcement of the figures, “Not only is the web not dead, adoption of the web is growing dramatically, particularly on mobile and this is opening up huge opportunities.”
