BlackBerry Priv is the company’s first Android-powered device, many see this as a make-or-break device for BlackBerry, with some even speculating that if it doesn’t do well perhaps BlackBerry may end up shutting down its hardware business. While the company has hinted at that, CEO John Chen has revealed in a new interview that the company does have more devices in the pipeline after the Priv.
In an interview with Fox Business the CEO of BlackBerry, John Chen, said that it’s not correct to say that the Priv is a “Hail Mary” attempt from this once great manufacturer, he points out that the Priv has been in the pipeline for quite some time now, it’s not that company just decided one day that it needed to make this handset to improve its chances of survival.
Chen also said that BlackBerry has a range of new devices planned after the Priv but it won’t flood the market with multiple devices, instead BlackBerry is going to let the market tell it what to do, if it sees that the response to the Priv is great it may make another Android-powered device.
However in his interview Chen didn’t point out if the company’s new range of devices after the Priv will be powered by BlackBerry 10 or Android, many would argue that going back to its OS would be akin to taking a step backwards at a time when BlackBerry should be taking leaps forward.
