AT&T Releases BlackBerry Priv On November 6th

A few weeks back BlackBerry confirmed that the handset we had all been hearing so much about is indeed its first Android-powered smartphone. The company has now started taking pre-orders for the BlackBerry Priv in North America as well as Europe, those who would rather purchase a subsidized model from a carrier can go with AT&T because the carrier just announced that it will release the BlackBerry Priv on its network come November 6th.

This makes AT&T the first carrier to offer BlackBerry’s first Android smartphone. It seems rather apt since AT&T was the first wireless carrier in the country to launch a BlackBerry device in the U.S. with the BlackBerry 950 back in 199. A Verizon version was spotted recently so Big Red might offer it as well. There’s no word as yet if T-Mobile and Sprint will be getting in on the Priv action as well.

AT&T customers will be able to purchase the BlackBerry Priv for $249.99 with a conventional two year service contract. It will also be available on AT&T Next plans costing $24.67 over 30 months, $30.85 over 24 months and $37 over 20 months.

BlackBerry Priv features a 5.4 inch Quad HD display with Gorilla Glass 4, under the hood there’s a Snapdragon 808 processor with 3GB RAM, the handset has an 18 megapixel rear camera with Schneider-Kreuznach, a microSD card slot, a 3,410mAh battery and it runs Android 5.1 Lollipop with specialized software from BlackBerry that makes the underlying Android OS secure.
