The rumor comes about after there were claims that Samsung is planning on selling their LCD plant in Cheonan. Apparently the reason is so that they can focus on OLED production, which apparently is ramping up as the company gets closer to inking the deal with Apple in which we could see OLED technology make its way into future Apple devices.
While there have been rumors suggesting that we could be looking at OLEDs in iPhones, there have been rumors that suggests otherwise. The latest report comes from KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who believes that Apple will be sticking with LCD for the foreseeable future, at least until 2018 or later.
It is possible that while the OLED deal with Apple is true, instead of it being for the iPhone, the OLED panels might be used for other Apple products, like the second-gen Apple Watch which we have heard is tipped for a June 2016 launch. In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but what do you guys think of an OLED iPhone?
