Research Firm Predicts Apple Will Buy Box Or Dropbox

Apple buys companies from time to time. What exactly they do with those companies is usually a bit of a mystery, save for Beats Music in which it was pretty obvious what they had planned. That being said, what does Apple have planned for the future, like in 2016? Research firm CCS Insight has offered up some opinions/predictions.

According to the research firm, they predict that Apple could end up acquiring companies such as Box or Dropbox. As it stands, Apple and Box are both partnered with IBM in a bid to target the enterprise market. Box and Dropbox are also online data storage firms, but given that Apple already has iCloud which allows users to backup data to the cloud, we’re not sure what acquiring Box or Dropbox would accomplish, save for removing a competitor from the market.

However if we had to speculate, perhaps it could be used to aid Apple’s push into the enterprise market by separating one storage service for regular consumers, and another for enterprise. CCS Insight has also predicted that by the end of 2017, Apple could also end up replacing Google search with Bing for its Safari browser.

While Apple potentially acquiring Box or Dropbox might be a bit surprising, the idea of Apple replacing Google with Bing for its default search engine isn’t. After all both companies are well-known rivals in the mobile space, and the less exposure Apple gives Google, the better it works out for them. In any case all of this is just speculation and prediction and there is no indication that any of it might happen, but what do you guys make of it?
