Just yesterday it was reported that Apple could soon launch its payment service in Canada, it’s one of the first few markets to get Apple Pay ever since the service first went live in the United States, iPhone owners in Canada can now make mobile payments using this service. There’s good news for folks Down Under, Apple Pay is going live for them real soon as well.
For now users in Canada can only make mobile payments with Apple Pay if they’re using an American Express card, co-branded American Express cards from other financial institutions are not yet supported.
Users can make payments at any retailer that supports AmEx’s wireless payment system which including some major chains in Canada such as Staples, Indigo, Tim Hortons, McDonald’s and more. It’s also possible for users to make online payments in apps like Priceline, Domino’s, Uber and Starbucks.
Apple confirmed to the Financial Post that Apple Pay is going to be launched in Australia this Thursday, that’s just a couple of days from now, however it didn’t confirm who are the initial supporting merchants in Australia.
The company’s mobile payments service has already been available in the United Kingdom since July and now users in the UK can also add cards from Tesco Band and TSB to make payments on the go.
