Many of us use multiple online services and sometimes it can be a bit hard to keep track of all of our personal data across these different services, there are always many settings to configure to ensure that you are well aware of what personal data is being shared with other users of that same service, but we could all do with a tool that brings that information neatly into one place. Google has made such a tool and it’s called “About Me.”
Granted it works only with Google’s apps and services, but then again most of us do use multiple services from the company, including but not limited to Gmail, Hangouts, Google Maps, YouTube, Google Play Store and more.
Sometimes these services may ask you to share a bit of personal information which is visible to other users that can search for you on the service and interact with you. Previously all of this was stored in Google+, provided that you made an account, but since Google+ is no longer needed to gain access to Google’s services it was high time that a tool like About Me was created.
Through About Me you can make changes to your personal information that’s shared across Google services, however some things can’t be deleted, like your full name or whatever photo you have set up. While it’s possible to hid the year you can’t delete your birthday from your profile. Any and all changes made via About Me will automatically show up across the Google services that you use.
There does exist one major caveat: if you have a Google Apps account that you use for all of the company’s services, About Me serves no purpose since the tool won’t allow you to edit anything on it.
