It has only been a few weeks since Microsoft unveiled its two new Lumia flagship smartphones, the new flagships arrived after a very long time in which the company only released low-to-mid range smartphones. Now that the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950XL are out the focus turns to flagship devices destined for 2016 and as per recent rumors that upcoming handsets might be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 processor.
This may not be impossible since the Snapdragon 820 processor is likely to power many flagships that are due next year, so it would make sense for Microsoft to pick this processor for the 2016 Lumia flagships even though it isn’t confirming anything at this point in time.
Qualcomm makes the 64-bit Snapdragon 820 over the 14nm process, coupled with the Adreno 530 graphics processor the chipset promises significantly improved performance while being more power efficient and hopefully without having any of the overheating issues that have gripped the Snapdragon 810.
Microsoft is rumored to release the 2016 Lumia flagship smartphones in the third quarter of 2016, at least one of the models is believed to feature the same liquid cooling technology that made its debut with the Lumia 950XL.
Since it’s a bit too soon to be absolutely sure of what flagships supposed to arrive next year will feature, it’s best to take this rumor with a grain of salt for now.
