For several months, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge has topped the DxOMark ranks for smartphone cameras. However it looks like we have a new number one camera, and that is the Sony Xperia Z5. This is according to DxOMark’s latest rankings which sees Sony’s flagship smartphone steal the number one position.
In the process what has happened is that all phones got pushed down by one spot. This puts the Galaxy S6 Edge in second position, the Nexus 6P in third where only a couple of days ago it was ranked second, and the LG G4 in fourth, where previously it was ranked second but it got displaced by the Nexus 6P.
Seeing Sony’s smartphones placed so high doesn’t really come as a surprise. While Sony’s smartphones aren’t exactly as popular compared to other Android brands, the company has been known for their cameras. In fact Sony’s sensors are so good that even OEMs such as Apple are using them for their own phones.
According to DxOMark, they find that the Xperia Z5 ranks pretty well in terms of autofocusing and good white balance and color rendering. They also note that detail preservation is good too in both good and low-light conditions, and even in low-light situations noise isn’t very obvious. So if your smartphone’s camera is your number one priority, then perhaps the Sony Xperia Z5 might be worth considering.
