For those of you guys starting to get antsy, Microsoft’s Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb has tweeted that the feature will be launched on the 12th of November. According to Hryb, “Xbox fans mark your calendars: @XboxP3 just revealed new Xbox One experience & back compat start launching Nov. 12 for all Xbox One owners.”
This means that come 12th of November, you should be able to play Xbox 360 games on your Xbox One console. Now before you get too excited and start dusting off your entire Xbox 360 library, take note that backwards compatibility is determined by the developer/publisher of the game, not Microsoft. The Redmond company has simply provided the tools and access.
It was in August that it was revealed that Activision’s name was not in the list of companies that supported backwards compatibility. However there are still plenty of companies on board and who knows, perhaps at a later date Activision may decide to come on board.
