There is some good news today for people who own the Galaxy Core Prime on Verizon, this entry-level smartphone was launched late last year and it came with Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box. Many though that this handset won’t get much love when major new updates are released in the future but there’s a pleasant surprise for folks who own this handset on the country’s largest mobile carrier.

It was only a couple of months back when the company took users by surprise as it released Android 5.0.2 for the handset. The version of this handset sold by Verizon has since not received any major Android update but that changes now.

Android 5.1.1 Lollipop is now being rolled out for the Verizon Galaxy Core Prime. Software version G360VVRU3BOH3 is now being rolled out for this handset on Verizon, it includes everything that you’ve come to expect from this particular version of Android.

Android 5.1.1 for Galaxy Core Prime also brings the much awaited fix for the Stagefright security vulnerability that was recently discovered in Android, it will certainly be a welcome addition for people who already own the device.

Samsung is not going to release this update through the Kies software, users in the United States will have to wait until Verizon releases the OTA in their region, which could end up taking some time.
