Toshiba has launched a new tablet powered by Windows 10, called the DynaPad it’s not that different from the tablet hybrids that are increasingly becoming common these days, and might as well be taking inspiration from the Microsoft Surface. However this isn’t the first DynaPad from Toshiba, the company actually launched the first DynaPad back in 1993 when touchscreen tablets weren’t exactly common.

A prototype of this product did appear at IFA 2015 but Toshiba has officially announced the new DynaPad now, is has a 12 inch display, a very thin design and decent specifications.

It’s not a powerhouse in any way though, under the hood there’s a 1.44GHz Intel Atom processor with 4GB memory, so even if the design takes inspiration from Surface, the performance doesn’t. In tablet mode the DynaPad weighs just 569 grams at 6.6mm high making it one of the thinnest and lightest 12 inch tablets on the market. When they keyboard is attached the height increases to 14.9mm and the weight to 996 grams.

DynaPad has a 1,920×1,280 pixel resolution IPS display with dual layers of anti-fingerprint and anti-reflection coating, it also comes with a Wacom Active Electrostatics TruPen that is capable of 2,048 levels of pressure. The stylus works with Toshiba’s native apps as well as Microsoft Office and Edge browser, Toshiba claims that the stylus works so nicely with its tablet that users will feel like they’re writing on paper.

Toshiba DynaPad is available for pre-order in Japan starting today, it won’t be available in the United States or Europe until early next year, priced at slightly north of $1,000.
