T-Mobile recently revealed that on November 10th it’s going to make the next uncarrier announcement, the tenth in the series, aptly called Uncarrier X. It has only provided one hint which makes it seem like the announcement has something to do with music or video. That’s just might what it turn out to be if a new rumor is to be believed, apparently it’s going to do the same for video streaming that it has already done for music streaming via Music Freedom.
The very reliable @evleaks has tweeted that T-Mobile’s Uncarrier X offering will enable users to stream unlimited content from select video streaming services like Netflix and HBO in high definition, this means that whatever data is consumed for streaming won’t be deducted from the user’s monthly data allocation on T-Mobile.
It goes without saying that this is going to be huge if T-Mobile really does announce this on November 10th, given the solid track record that @evleaks has, it seems quite possible that this is what the Uncarrier X announcement is going to be all about.
He only mentions HBO and Netflix, which are undoubtedly two of the most popular online video streaming services, but it will be interesting to see which services T-Mobile adds to this plan, particularly widely used ones like YouTube and Vevo.
If that happens, T-Mobile users will essentially be able to stream as much music and video as they want on cellular data without having to worry about running out of data. They only thing they’ll be using their allocation for then would be emails, app usage and web browsing, all of which is not as data intensive as watching an episode of House of Cards on Netflix in HD.
