Early last year, we did bring you word that there were whispers concerning the Surface Mini tablet from Microsoft, but sadly, this particular device did not manage to see the light of day. In fact, rumors surrounding the Surface Mini did happen all the way back to September 2013, and speculation for said tablet continued right up to May 20th, 2014, which was the supposed date for the alleged device’s release. Unfortunately, nothing happened on that day, and it has been said that the Surface Mini was dropped because it did not have a differentiating factor in the highly competitive tablet market.
Despite the fact that the Surface Mini showed up in the Surface Pro 3 User Guide, there was still no substantial proof that the device was “real”. Thankfully, the unstoppable passage of time has revealed one thing – that the Surface Mini was very real back then, but a series of unfortunate events showed that it was not meant to be. Ah well, que sera, sera.
As to whether any of us will see a Surface Mini being made available to the masses for purchase in the near future, that remains to be seen, since there are rumblings on the grapevine that the device might see a second iteration, but it does not look as though that is going to happen anytime soon.
