Surface Book Pre-Orders Are Back But Delivery Will Take An Eternity

About a week back Microsoft unveiled the first laptop it has ever made, the Surface Book is bringing in a lot customer interest, with the most expensive configuration selling out merely days after being available for pre-order. Just yesterday we reported that all configurations of the Surface Book had been sold out but today Microsoft has once again started accepting pre-orders for its first laptop, however it will take an eternity for your shiny new Surface Book to be delivered.

From the looks of it Microsoft has sold out of all pre-launch inventory that it had on hand, the numbers are not known, the company might have had a modest number available in pre-launch inventory just to see how customers react to the new product.

It seems that the reaction has caught Microsoft off guard, it may already have ramped up production of the new device, and since pre-orders are back up again more people can get their orders in for the laptop.

That doesn’t mean it will be able to deliver them quickly though. As of now the base configuration that features an Intel Core i5 processor with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage is estimated to ship in 5 to 6 weeks, it’s the same estimate for the 256GB variant and the Core i7 configuration with 512GB storage and 16GB RAM.

Delivery estimate for the Core i5 with dedicated GPU and the Core i7 with 256GB storage and 8GB RAM is listed at 7 to 8 weeks. These estimates might not seem much to most people, but if you just can’t wait to get your hands on a Surface Book, a few weeks will certainly feel like eternity.
