In case you need more proof that the Sony PS Vita could be on its way out, a recent report from 4Gamer (via DualShockers) has revealed that the company has no first-party PS Vita titles in the works. What this means is that Sony themselves aren’t looking to develop new games for the console for now, although whether or not third-party devs will churn out games is an entirely different story.
This report is based on an interview that Sony Computer Entertainment’s SVP Masayasu Ito had with the publication. According to Ito, “Currently, first party studios have no titles in development for PS Vita. Since third parties are working very hard on PS Vita, SCE’s own strategy is to focus on PS4, which is a new platform.”
Take note that the interview was conducted in Japanese and that there could potentially be a misinterpretation in the translation, but for now it does sound like first-party titles for the PS Vita aren’t in the works. Like we said this seems to show more proof that Sony could eventually retire the console.
Last month, the company revealed that gamers shouldn’t expect a PS Vita successor anytime soon, if at all. Given how popular mobile games are and how even companies like Nintendo are starting to transition to mobile, it does sound like handheld consoles aren’t that important anymore, but what say you? Could there be a market remaining for handheld consoles, or will mobile take over?
