Siri Won’t Answer Music Chart Queries Without Apple Music Subscription

While there are apps for streaming services like Spotify, Pandora, and Rdio available on iOS, it is obviously to Apple’s benefit if you were to subscribe to its Apple Music streaming service. However for the most part, Apple has not really held users back from trying to download other services if that’s what they want.

However it has recently been noted that Apple might have included some restrictions that will encourage users to subscribe to the company’s music streaming service. As you can see in the screenshot above, it seems to suggest that Siri will not be entertaining any queries posed by users with regards to music charts unless they are subscribed to Apple Music.

No doubt this is a way for Apple to get users to jump on board Apple Music, but at the same time we’re not sure how iOS users feel about having certain questions locked out to them just because they’re not subscribed. There is a chance that Apple uses Apple Music to aggregate music information, so without a subscription, they can’t access the data for the user’s questions.

However as pointed out by AppleInsider, it is possible for Apple to separate the chart database from Apple Music, or at least pull it from a third-party source like Billboard. We’re not sure if this is something the Cupertino company will be addressing in the future, but for now we guess non-Apple Music subscribers will have to deal with this.
