Based on the way virtual reality technology is developing and how it is slowly becoming more mainstream, it would be safe to say that the future of gaming may heavily involve virtual reality. In fact Sony Computer Entertainment’s boss Shuhei Yoshida is looking well into the future and envisions the next Gran Turismo title to be playable in virtual reality.
Speaking to the folks at Eurogamer, Yoshida spoke about the difficulty of the driving game genre. Basically with so many different titles to choose from, apart from graphics, what would set titles like Gran Turismo apart from the competition? Apparently approaching the game from a virtual reality point of view could be one of them.
Yoshida was quoted as saying, “Many trial tests we’ve been doing, some genres just work fine. One of those genres is racing games. So when Gran Turismo comes out on PS4, I’d like to see it support PlayStation VR, yeah.” For those unfamiliar, the PlayStation VR is the official name that Sony has given to Project Morpheus.
At the moment Gran Turismo for the PS4 has yet to be released. The developers of the Gran Turismo series have already confirmed that Gran Turismo 7 is in the works. The game was originally pegged for 2014 so safe to say that it has missed its mark, but what do you guys think? Would you like to see a racing game done in virtual reality?
