shove chromeBrowser extensions are functional and to a certain degree, productive. However that doesn’t mean that all extensions are equal. Some can be fun as well, like Shove, a new Chrome browser extension that basically lets you take over your friend’s browser by sending links to them and having it open in the browser directly.

We know, there are plenty of pranks to play with Shove and the various embarrassing situations you could put your friends in, especially at work or at school. However when you stop to think about it, Shove would also make for a pretty useful collaborative tool. For example if you’re trying to do group research, Shove will let group members share websites and online journals with each other.

Instead of sending a link that they have to click, just “Shove” it to them and it will open. Shove only works with friends that you have added and approved, and usually a new tab will open with a warning informing you that a webpage is incoming, so it won’t be instant and catch you completely unawares.

As for security, yes Shove could be used to send users to harmful websites. However the onus is on Google and the default security built into Chrome. If Chrome can detect harmful websites, the same warning will appear if the website is Shove-ed to users, so unless it was undetectable to begin with, you should be (relatively) safe. If you’d like to check it out, hit up the Chrome Web Store for the download.
