Major TV networks are gradually embracing the internet TV streaming phenomenon and launching their own services to better compete in the evolving TV landscape, there had been rumors that NBC is coming up with a service of its own, and today one has finally been announced. The service doesn’t provide streaming of the linear channel online, rather it’s a dedicated service for streaming comedy content, which NBC has plenty of.

The over-the-top internet TV streaming service is called SeeSo and it will be priced at $3.99 per month, content will include some of the best comedy shows from NBC including but not limited to Saturday Night Live, The Office, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and Monty Python’s Flying Circus.

Speaking at a press event in New York NBCU Digital Enterprises Vice President Evan Shapiro said that this ad-free streaming service doesn’t intend to challenge major subscription services like Netflix or Hulu, “This is a complement, not a replacement” for SVOD services, Shapiro said.

NBC will also be producing original series just for SeeSo, it will include The UCB Show featuring Amy Poehler as well as an animated series from Dan Harmon, the creator of NBC hit Community. It’s expected that SeeSo will get about 20 original series in the first year of operation.

The network is going to launch SeeSo in private beta this December with a public launch slated for January 2016. It will be available via seeso.com, major OTT platforms as well as via apps for major mobile platforms.
