Samsung Is Apparently Trying To “Fix” The Snapdragon 820

One of the popular rumors surrounding the Samsung Galaxy S7 is that the company will return to Qualcomm for the phone, and that the handset will be powered by the Snapdragon 820 when this year’s Galaxy S6 skipped the Snapdragon 810 due to reports of overheating. However according to a report out of Korea (via SamMobile), it seems that the Snapdragon 820 isn’t completely immune to overheating either.

According to the report, Samsung is said to be working around the clock trying to “fix” the Snapdragon 820. Now considering that the chipset has yet to debut in any smartphone, this rumor does seem a bit premature so it’s best taken with a grain of salt. However what’s interesting is how invested Samsung is in the chipset.

The report claims that Samsung is looking into releasing a patch that will modify the microprocessor’s control program to help deal with heat issues. It also claims that if this doesn’t work, Samsung could turn to installing pipes in the phone to help with heat dissipation, like what Sony did with the Xperia Z5. Basically it sounds like by hook or by crook, Samsung wants to Snapdragon 820 in the phone.

Like we said this seems a bit premature since there have not been any tests done on the Snapdragon 820 to prove that it is overheating, so this could all be for nought. The rumors are also claiming that we could be looking at multiple versions of the phone with different processors, so at worst we suppose Samsung could always return to using their Exynos chipsets.
