We have recently been treated to a new Apple TV, new Fire TV and Fire TV Stick from Amazon and even a new Chromecast. In this battle of streaming media players Roku remains a contender, and following rumors that a new Roku is on the horizon with 4K support, the company today announced Roku 4. As expected, the Roku 4 does feature support for 4K and also brings several improvements to the table.
Roku 4 supports 4K at 60 frames-per-second and also has support for 802.11ac Wi-Fi to ensure that users get the performance that they expect from this device. It also gets an improved user interface from Roku’s latest software update as well as integration with the new Roku app.
Several design changes have been made as well, Roku 4 is a bit of a flatter and wider design than its predecessors. It does however retain the rounded-off square look, the unit had been stretched out to fit new internal hardware such as the quadcore processor.
Since 4K is in the spotlight Roku has made it very easy for users to discover Ultra HD content, it has added a 4K row in the channel store which provides quick access to all 4K video that’s available for Roku 4. There’s also a novel feature that lets you locate a misplaced remote control, just press the small rectangular button on the set-top box and it will command the remote to buzz or ring until you locate it.
Roku 4 costs $129 will be available for purchase later this month.
