[CEATEC 2015] It looks like the next big jump in terms of visual quality would be UltraHD, and you can be sure that industry players are starting to ensure that they are well placed to meet whatever kinds of future potential demand. In fact, Japan will soon reveal a Blu-ray Disc player that will play nice with 4K UltraHD discs, and it will boast of the distinction of being the first such player of its kind in the world.
Another name for UltraHD is also known as 4K, as it comes with four times the amount of resolution as opposed to conventional high definition, and it is right now seeing a pretty strong push by major consumer electronics companies, hoping that folks would be willing to fork out even more money to upgrade their TVs. Right now, one of the ways to obtain UltraHD content on a compatible set would be to enrol with a bunch of Internet streaming services, such as Netflix, Amazon and YouTube.
Panasonic’s maiden effort as an UltraHD Blu-ray player would be known as the DMR-UBZ1, where it is not quite ready to hit the market just yet, although it will arrive in Japan later next November 15th. This particular player does not only play back UltraHD Blu-ray discs, but it also boasts of a 3TB hard drive – sounds ostentatious, but you will definitely need all of that space in order to record whatever Japanese terrestrial and satellite TV that interests you. Panasonic intends to roll out approximately 500 of such players monthly, where they will retail for around 400,000 yen ($3,330) thereabouts.
