So much so that Microsoft seems to be taking steps to help encourage a higher adoption of the app. According to reports, it seems that in an upcoming Windows 10 preview that was leaked, Microsoft is actively encouraging user to use the default apps bundled with Windows 10, with the Edge browser being one of them.
In the window in which users can choose the default apps that open files on Windows 10, there will now be a new prompt in which it asks users to “Give Microsoft Edge a shot”, and goes on to extol some of the browser’s virtues like the ability to write on websites and share ideas, the reading view functionality, as well as the ability to use Cortana.
This doesn’t apply only to Edge. The prompt will also apply to other default apps like when you try to switch to a different photo app or music app. As it stands there is speculation that because the Edge browser lacks certain features like extension support, it is why users are still holding back on adopting it, although that might change in the future once support is rolled out.
