In Japan, the anime and manga culture is strong which is not surprising for the country that spawned various shows and comics that are well-known internationally, like Gundam, Dragonball, One Piece, Naruto, and Evangelion. In fact if you’re a fan of Evangelion, you might be interested to learn that over in Japan, they are getting another Evangelion smartphone.
Prior to this back in 2012, an Evangelion-themed smartphone was released. The country seems to love this particular franchise because earlier this year, it was also announced that there would be Evangelion bullet trains as well, so we guess it doesn’t really come as a huge surprise to learn that a new Evangelion phone is in the works as well.
That being said, the phone itself isn’t particularly special under the hood. While on the outside it does get the Evangelion treatment with a skin and color schemes, under the hood it’s pretty much your standard smartphone. It comes with a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8926 chipset under the hood and is accompanied by 2GB of RAM.
There will also be 16GB of onboard storage, and there will also come Neon Genesis Evangelion Android skins, sound effects, and wallpapers. It is also priced rather high at $705 (after conversion from 82,240 yen) for a phone with such specs, but it is a limited edition with 30,000 units planned. 5,000 of which are expected to begin shipping in December, followed by the rest in April of 2016.
