The jailbreak scene isn’t as vibrant as it used to be a few years back, some of the popular jailbreak developers have more or less disappeared from the scene but there’s a dedicated team of jailbreakers based in China making sure that even the latest versions of Apple’s mobile operating system are cracked. The Pangu team already has quite a few releases under its belt and now it has released the first iOS 9 untethered jailbreak to the public.
Over the years Apple has tweaked its software to make it much harder for jailbreak developers to come up with exploits, and since a bootrom exploit (a vulnerability at hardware level) hasn’t been discovered in ages it has essentially closed the door on jailbreaking.
Pangu soldiers on nonetheless, and every few months we hear that the team has had a breakthrough and that there’s a new jailbreak available to the public. Today is one of those days.
Pangu’s iOS 9 untethered jailbreak works with iOS 9.0 to iOS 9.02 on all supported iPhones and iPads, granted that this is the first publicly released jailbreak for iOS 9 but it’s far from perfect, some who have used the tool say that there are some bugs that need to be ironed out.
There’s no doubt that the team will address those concerns in due time, for now though the jailbreak community can rejoice before they’re no longer stuck without a jailbreak on iOS 9.
