J.P. Morgan, the investment bank that certainly carries a lot of weight when it comes to its financial reports and predictions, has announced that the company will not give out free BlackBerry smartphones to each and every one of its employees from next year onward. Basically, those who are working with the investment bank from 2016 onward will have to fork out their own money if they would like to own one. The main reason behind this? Cost efficiency, of course, as most people are tightening their belts in these economically uncertain times. For employees who would like to retain their company-issued BlackBerry, they will need to fork out for the monthly invoice where data is concerned.
Thankfully, J.P. Morgan is not going to make it compulsory for folks to pick up their own handset that is mated to a specific operating system. The Wall Street Journal claims that through this particular exercise, J.P. Morgan is tipped to reduce its operating expenses by about 6% in 2016 to $57.67 billion.
Apart from this new smartphone policy, the investment bank also mentioned that certain kinds of company email will no longer be available to read on a BlackBerry device. With this news arriving after BlackBerry prepares itself to roll out an Android-powered smartphone known as the BlackBerry Priv, things are definitely going to get more and more interesting.
