Earlier this year HTC announced the HTC Grip fitness tracker. This would be HTC’s first foray into the wearables market, but it looks like even seven months later, the company has yet to release the device. Several months ago the company announced a delay and promised it would be released by the end of the year.
However that has changed as the HTC Grip will now be released in early 2016. In a statement released by HTC to the folks at Phandroid,As we continue to develop the Connected Fitness platform and elevate our product offerings, “Under Armour and HTC have decided to launch a fully integrated digital ecosystem of products early next year. This global launch will provide the tools needed to help athletes of all levels track, manage and improve their health and fitness. Our teams have done a remarkable job bringing these products to life and we’re excited to share them with the public soon.”
This statement was provided by HTC after Phandroid had reached out to them with regards to rumors that the HTC Grip had been scrapped completely. While the statement does not mention the Grip specifically, it does sound like the device would fall under that statement. It also sounds like HTC and Under Armour are looking to launch a bunch of connected/wearable devices at one shot as well.
In any case with so many fitness trackers in the market today, it’s safe to say that the longer HTC waits, the more competition they will be getting, so hopefully if and when the HTC Grip is launched, it will be good enough to stand out amongst the crowd.
