Sony’s initial announcement caused some confusion as many though that the company was referring to Gran Turismo 7, it later clarified that this new Gran Turismo title from Polyphony Digital isn’t GT7.
It didn’t go into a lot of details about the new title, which arrives after Gran Turismo 6 was released back in 2013, but the moniker has been confirmed. It’s called Gran Turismo Sport and will have everything that gamers have come to expect from this franchise, basically a large variety of great cars going very fast aided by top notch graphics.
A teaser trailer was also released just to get the hype going for Gran Turismo Sport. It will also get an online racing series which will apparently be “recognized alongside real world motor racing by the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile)” FIA is the global body that governs motorsport in its various forms and manifestations across the globe.
It has also been confirmed that Gran Turismo Sport will be compatible with Sony’s virtual reality headset PlayStation VR, the title will enter beta testing in 2016 before subsequently being released for PlayStation 4.
