Earlier this year GoPro launched a licensing portal which enabled people to get paid for their videos if they were picked up for licensing, now the company is announcing a new program through which it will directly pay users for their awesome videos and photos. The program is called GoPro Awards and the company has set aside $5 million per year for this purpose.
GoPro Awards is going to be an ongoing content which pays out $500 for a photo, $1,000 for a raw video clip and $5,000 for a video edit if it’s deemed to be worthy of the award. The person who shot that photo or video will get the money while GoPro will get global non exclusive distribution and monetization rights to the content in perpetuity as well as the ability to edit.
This basically means that the person who shot the photo or video can do whatever they want with it but the company can also use it for anything GoPro related and for that they will be paid accordingly. Yes, GoPro is going to pay a monetization or licensing fee if that content is used for marketing purposes and that payout is going to be separate from the initial award. That’s a pretty sweet deal.
Anyone with a GoPro can enter, submissions have to be made at gopro.com/awards in a wide range of categories that include Family, Sports, Motorsports, Animals, Adventure, Action and more.
