While digital games does seem to be the way of the future, there are still gamers out there who love collecting physical copies due to the box, the artwork, manuals, and so on. Some might just prefer the physical copy as they believe it is better value for money. That being said if you are planning on getting Fallout 4 as a physical copy, here’s something to take into consideration.
According to a tweet by Bethesda’s Pete Hines (via VG247), he points out that the physical copy of Fallout 4 will not have the entire game’s data on the disc. What this means is that PC gamers who wish to play the game using the disc will have to install the game partially via the disc, and head on over to Steam to download the remaining files.
Now safe to say many weren’t too pleased by this, especially since playing on disc means having to not download huge install files over the internet. However according to Hines, this was done mostly to combat piracy and that the company has actually been doing this for the past decade or so, with games like Skyrim and Wolfenstein, just to name a few.
As to why console versions don’t need to go through this convoluted process, Hines claims that this is due to a combination of the use of DRMs and also because the console versions use Blu-ray, allowing Bethesda to store more files on it. Fallout 4 is scheduled for a release on the 10th of November.
