Earlier today we reported that a new Facebook feature called Reactions was rumored to begin testing. Turns out the rumors were right on the money as Facebook has officially announced the new feature and they are expected to begin testing in markets like Ireland and Spain. Presumably if all goes well, we can expect to see the feature roll out to other markets soon.
For those who are hearing about Reactions for the first time, basically this is a more enhanced version of Likes. The Likes feature/button is limited in terms of the message it conveys. For example Liking a post of someone who posted about their pet who died might be misconstrued when you’re really just trying to show your support.
This is where Reactions comes in. According to Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg, “Reactions gives you new ways to express love, awe, humor and sadness. It’s not a dislike button, but it does give you the power to easily express sorrow and empathy–in addition to delight and warmth. You’ll be able to express these reactions by long pressing or hovering over the like button.”
Some of you might recall that Facebook did state that they had plans for a Dislike button. Turns out that perhaps this could be one of the ways that they are implementing it, but what do you guys make of it?
