As you might have heard the other day, Canon might have let slip that they had a new camera called the PowerShot G5 X in the works. Turns out that they do! In fact the company has announced not just the PowerShot G5 X, but they have also announced the PowerShot G9 X, giving us two fixed-lens cameras in one day.
Now for the most part, both cameras are the same in terms of specs. Both will feature 20.2MP 1-inch sensors, DIGIC 6 image processors, and an ISO range of up to 25,600 (extended). However what makes them different could mostly be on the outside. The PowerShot G5 X will feature a built-in 2.36 million dot EVF and a tilting 3-inch LCD display. It will also feature a 24-100mm f/1.8-2.8 lens.
The PowerShot G9 X on the other hand will lack those features, but it seems that because of that it will be the lighter of the two. Both models will also feature a silver/brown retro design option, reminding us of the Olympus PEN and the Fujifilm X100T cameras in the process which isn’t a bad thing if you’re after that look. As for its lens, the PowerShot G9 X will have a 28-84mm f/2.0-4.9 lens attached to it.
Both cameras will also feature WiFi and NFC connectivity, so wireless control of the camera via a smartphone app and transferring of photos and videos wirelessly will be possible. For those interested in getting their hands on the devices, the Canon PowerShot G5 X will be priced at $799, while the PowerShot G9 X will be priced at $529, and both are expected to be released in November.
