As we mentioned a few days ago, Overwatch will be entering into beta come 27th of October. Gamers who are interested in checking it out can go ahead and sign up for it, although there’s no guarantee that you will get in. While the beta will no doubt introduce a bunch of gamers to the game, it will also introduce a new feature.
According to Blizzard, the Overwatch beta will introduce a new feature to Battle.net in the form of a Voice Chat. Blizzard states that the chat will only be available for testing in the Overwatch beta, so don’t expect to it applied to Diablo 3, StarCraft 2, World of Warcraft, Hearthstone, or Heroes of the Storm just yet.
However Blizzard did not close off the idea that it could eventually support more games. “With voice chat still in its early development and testing stages, it’s too early to say which Blizzard games will be supported and when.” The details of how the chat works was not detailed but Blizzard will share more information once the beta is live.
That being said, games like World of Warcraft has its own in-game voice chat. However given that this is a Battle.net Voice Chat, it means that it could be applied at a system-wide level, meaning that we could potentially chat with friends without having to launch any games, or even voice chat with friends on different games. Like we said details of how it works is scarce at the moment, but check back with us next week for the details.
