As we mentioned in our previous post, the Moto X (2014) models would get the update, but this was limited to the Moto X Pure Edition (basically the non-carrier branded version) and the Moto X for Latin America, Europe, and Asia. When asked about the fate of the AT&T and Verizon version of the 2014 Moto X, there was some bad news.
According to a Motorola rep who replied to the question on the Motorola forums (via Droid-Life), he answered in the negative and that the AT&T and Verizon version of the phone will not be getting the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update. We’re not sure if the rep misspoke and might be basing this on the list, or if it is true that Motorola is really passing over the carrier versions of its 2014 Moto X handsets for the Android 6.0 update.
Assuming the latter is true, it would no doubt be very disappointing for Motorola owners who have had their handset for only a year. Sure, there are alternatives like flashing custom ROMs based on Android 6.0, but that is an unnecessarily long route that handset owners should not have to take.
