Not too long ago Google launched OnHub, a rather smart router that much better Wi-Fi performance and plays nicely with connected smart objects. That particular router was developed in collaboration with TP-Link and it’s not going to be the only model in the OnHub lineup. Today an Asus-made OnHub router has been announced and it’s now available for pre-order in the United States. This new model has a slightly different design than the first one and a new feature called “Wave Control.”
The cylindrical shape of this router is slightly different than the first OnHub router, but Google maintains that “OnHub routers are meant to be displayed proudly,” clearly it doesn’t want you to hide it out of sight.
The features are more or less than same, the Asus-made OnHub also promises faster Wi-Fi, easy setup and simple management of the router with the Google On application. Wave Control is a feature that’s new to this OnHub, it lets users booth Wi-Fi speed for a particular device by just waving their hand over the top of the OnHub.
Google has also confirmed today that it’s going to release its first software update in the coming week which brings performance improvements and will add a new “smart antenna algorithm” which will enable the OnHub to intelligently select the best combination of antennas to direct Wi-Fi to devices across the entire house based on their location and orientation.
Asus-made OnHub is now available for pre-order via Google’s website for $219.99.
